By the set up of the Oyo State Government, the Ministry of Health is saddled with the responsibility of policy initiation and implementation of issues regarding the health and well being of the teaming population in both rural and urban communities of Oyo State. Since the inception of this administration, the Ministry has been able to set a proper perspective for comprehensive health care delivery system that will serve the greatest majority of people of the State with focus on Primary Health Care and Disease Control.
The effort of Ministry of Health is focused on ensuring availability of essential drugs at all public health facilities and we have achieved measurable success in this regard. To this effect, the State Government is currently considering proposals for drug manufacturing. This is expected to generate substantial revenue for the State and address the issue of drug shortages as well as providing employment for our youths in the field of Pharmacy, Laboratory Science Marketing etc. Also each local government has been directed to separate at least N200, 000.00 monthly for primary health care drug procurement , most local governments have complied
The state has thirty three local governments namely Afijio , Akinyele, Atiba ,Atisbo,Egbeda ,Ibadan North Ibadan North-East ,Ibadan North-West,Ibadan South-East,Ibadan South-West,Ibarapa Central ,Ibarapa East, Ibarapa North ,Iddo ,Irepo,Iseyin, Itesiwaju ,Iwajowa ,Kajola ,Lagelu ,Ogbomoso North ,Ogbomoso South ,Ogo-Oluwa ,Oluyole ,Ona-Ara ,Oorelope, Oriire ,Olorunsogo ,Oyo East ,Oyo West ,Saki East ,Saki West and Surulere Local Governments.
Our general focus is to provide a people-oriented, broad-based purposeful and sustainable health care delivery system with a fundamental unique structure in functions and performance of health systems, involving all stakeholders (policies, legislation, institutional arrangements, organization, plans, programmes, research, projects, communities and households) in order to deliver efficient, quality, affordable, accessible, effective and equitable health care services to the populace with the ultimate GOAL of improving the health status of the people.
